Castles and Places of Historical
Interest

Brodie Castle - 16th century fortified home - formerly the home of
the Brodie of Brodie - now a Scottish National Trust property.

Cawdor Castle
- 14th century castle, linked with MacBeth by Shakespeare.

Culloden Battlefield - site of the last major battle fought on
British soil.

Duntulm Castle - the ruins of Duntulm Castle stand right at the top
of the Trotternish peninsula on Skye. This was a stronghold of the Clan
MacDonald and was abandoned by the clan around 1730.

Dunvegan Castle
- the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod on the Isle of Skye, still in
use today. The castle is open to visitors all year round - opening times
are shown on the website.

Eilean Donan
Castle - the famous castle on Loch Duich which used to feature in
the "balloon" sequences on BBC television. Open to visitors.

Fort George - massive and impressive fort built in the 1760's and
still in use as a barracks today. The ramparts form an excellent vantage
point from which to look for dolphins which regularly visit the Moray
Firth.

Urquhart Castle - an imposing castle on the shores of Loch Ness.
